Labor candidate for Fremantle Peter Tagliaferri has welcomed the commitment by the Federal Government to improve local schools.
MrTagliaferri said the high school he attended, Fremantle's Christian Brothers' College received $199,000 of the $46.5 million for maintenance and renewal of school buildings in Western Australia.
"The program is part of the Rudd Government's historic nation building investment to support local jobs and to improve the quality of education for every Australian child," he said.
"As a former student I'm delighted to see the school benefiting from Labor's investment and commitment to education.
"It is an exciting opportunity for local schools to improve their facilities and help deliver even better educational outcomes for our students."
Mr Tagliaferri said every student deserved a quality education and encouraged all schools in and around Fremantle to apply for the next round of Federal funding.
"If elected I will make sure that every school in our area continues to thrive and gain the maximum possible funding for new or upgraded facilities."
